The invitation design process

The Blush & Blue Designs Process

Step 1: Reach out

The first step in the process is to reach out and let me know you’re interested in working together. My custom wedding invitations are hand-made works of art, which means I can only take on 6 wedding suites per year. I recommend reaching out to me at least 10 months before your wedding date for the best chance at securing time on my calendar.

Step 2: Sign the contract and pay retainer

We’ll discuss your quote and any questions you have before you sign your contract and make your deposit. Then I can officially welcome you to your client portal where we’ll collaborate on all the magical details of your project. Inside you will see our plan for proof reviews, printing projections as well as when we plan on getting everything in the mail.

Step 3: Sketching your custom design

I will sketch a custom design that is perfectly coordinated with your wedding, from your love story and personality to your wedding venue and attire.

Step 4: Creating your artwork

Once you approve your sketch, I’ll begin creating all of the artwork and calligraphy needed for your suite. Watercolors will come to life, papers and ribbons will be ordered and sweet words will be written. This is one of the longest steps in the process and is dependent on the amount if artwork we need for your suite (e.g., crest design, wedding map, florals, venue illustration).

Step 5: Final production and mailing

After your artwork and design are approved I will get to work on prepping your materials for final printing and assembly. Printing generally takes about 2-3 weeks depending on your choice of print process chosen. Once printing is complete I will assemble your invitations with any gorgeous ribbons, wax seals, vintage postage, or other add-ons we have discussed. Then it’s off to the Post Office for hand canceling and best wishes for a safe journey to the hands of your guests.

Step 6: Optional day-of add ons

If you chose to have additional items added to your project such as menus, table numbers, display cards, custom signage and escort cards then we will discuss a separate timeline for these materials. As these will be created within a month or two before your wedding day.

How long does the custom invitation process take?

Your time is precious. Your timeline is carefully planned to give you the opportunity to enjoy the invitation design process, without having to stress over meeting your mailing deadline.

How long will the whole process from start to finish? Approximately 12 weeks.

When should I contact Blush and Blue Designs? Couples typically reach out about their invitation needs 10-12 months before the wedding to ensure a date on my calendar. I only take on 6 wedding invitation designs per year so reaching out as soon as you know you want to work together is best.

What if I don’t know all the details about my wedding yet? That’s OK! You do not need to know all your details to secure your wedding invitations with me.

What if I only need Save-the-Dates? It’s best to reach out as soon as you secure your date and location as these should be in the mail no more than 6-8 months prior to your wedding.

What if I need a rush job? I can accommodate rush orders if time allows me to. If you need a suite in less than 10 weeks please contact me right away!
